The Black Page was The Sancho Plan's most ambitious project. It was in pre-production for a good year before we got funding from the Art's Council & Northern Film Media.
Taking inspiration from an encounter between Salvador Dali and Frank Zappa, The Black Page was an epic endeavour. Linear animation produced at post house Golden Square, was interwoven with real-time animation played out by a live band. I worked as the lead artist; creating environments, developing characters, directing artists at Golden Square and co-writing the script.
We debuted the film at the Tyneside Cinema, Newcastle. We were pretty happy when The Guardian wrote it up - "Look out Pixar, here come The Sancho Plan!"
Below are some development stills and a video of the live performance.
